How a furnace works, the furnace sequence of operation. Or in other words how a furnace works and in which order each component is energized. Knowing this will help with furnace troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repair. When you know in what order the furnace starts up, then you will be able to narrow down your potential problems. Also, there are many different furnaces out there and though the sequence stays very similair from furnace to furnace, there may be some differences. And one more side note. If you turn the power off and on with a Bryant or Carrier furnace, the first thing that will happen is the blower motor will get energized for a minute or 2 to do a pre-purge. After that the sequence would be the same as any other furnace.
